Finding Family

One woman's obsession with family history.

Inquirer

The people at the National Library of Australia and in particular, Trove have been hard at work adding new newspapers to their digital newspaper collection. Whilst recently searching I was pleasantly surprised (and excited!) to discover two new Western Australian newspapers in their list: The Inquirer (1840 – 1855) and The Inquirer and Commercial News (1855 – 1901). Click on the above front page of the first issue of The Inquirer and read about the news of the day in Perth in 1840.

Most of the new issues are currently in ‘coming soon’ status but if you click on the little envelope icon on the bottom right of the preview box, you can request that a notice be sent via email advising you once a particular article is available.

Currently, the following Western Australian newspapers are available for searching and viewing on Trove:

  • The Inquirer & Commercial News (1855 – 1901)
  • The Inquirer (1840 – 1855)
  • Kalgoorlie Western Argus (1896 – 1916)
  • The Perth Gazette and Independent Journal of Politics and News (1848 – 1864)
  • The Perth Gazette and West Australian Times (1864 – 1874)
  • The Perth Gazette and Western Australian Journal (1833 – 1847)
  • Sunday Times (1902 – 1954)
  • The West Australian (1879 – 1954)
