Making the front page of The Sunday Times on 24 March 1935 was an incident where a car became wedged between two moving trams (yes, once upon a time Perth had trams). Though there is an obvious question (why did the driver assume he’d fit between the trams?), I can’t help but be drawn to the questions that would’ve provided us with the missing back-story. Was he in a rush? Did he simply imagine his car smaller than what it was? Was it arrogance that led him to think he could beat the trams? Whatever the answers, the photograph captures the moment and the bemused spectators perfectly.
It also makes me wonder 1) how such an accident on the busy Beaufort Street Bridge affected the traffic and 2) how they managed to free the car and the trams.
